CITY CENTER LOCATION
Elena's husband welcomed us. Bed was great, kitchen had everything we needed and wifi worked. We had a wonderful time, and would stay here again! Bright small room for one person. Short walk to all of down town. It is extremely well located and very clean. Amenities include a hour fitness area, and staff are friendly and attentive throughout.
The flat is just perfectly located: It is also very calm. The flat is lovely, perfect for two persons. Everything you need is inside. However, the WIFI connection is very low.. What a lovely spot. Great location, perfect amount of space, cozy and quaint. Thordis is absolutely amazing and I say with full confidence that you will have an experience that exceeds your expectations if you book with her.
In short, I highly recommend with no hesitation! First and foremost Thordis genuinely cares about her guests. She is very quick to respond to any messages or questions that you may have. She goes above and beyond in her communication with you. As a simple example, after you book she will send you a four page information package of super helpful information.
Her new location is approximately minutes by car from Reykjavik in a very quiet, peaceful area very close to the ocean.
A perfect location to either stay and relax or to start your exploration of Iceland. The apartment is very close to ring road number 1 - the major highway that encircles the island.
Due to circumstances beyond my control I was unable to make my trip at the last minute. When this happened Thordis showed great compassionate and understanding of my situation.
At the risk of sounding overly sentimental and cliche she is one of the beautiful, kind hearted people that has the ability to restore your faith in the goodness of humanity.
Thodis' apartment is great. Well located for us, close to the shops and attractions. The apartment itself was clean, lots of choices of entertainment, which was really nice given the really bad weather we came in, Thordis herself is lovely, we're still in Iceland atm and she continues to keep us up to date wth all the weather and storm warnings so we stay safe on the roads.
A very thoughtful and kind host, would definitely stay with her again. This lovely, enthusiastic and welcoming lady putted together quite a remarkable place to stay in Iceland. What you are going to find is a nicely decorated, freshly renewed, well equipped, clean, comfortable and resourceful small apartment with a breathtaking view built just under Thordis house. We were very grateful for booking this place, delighted to be her guests and we excitedly recommend for anyone seeking for the right spot.
Clean and convenient apartment with everything you could ask for. A wonderful and responsive host. We knew form the start it would be a great stay when Thordis contacted us indicating we could check in early - this was greatly appreciated since we had an early flight. We'd recommend this place to anyone and would definitely stay there again when visiting Iceland.
I couldn't think of a better place to stay! Lovely and clean, this place has so many amenities for which we were grateful. If all Airbnb experiences were like ours and all hosts like Thordis, hotels would go out of business!
Thordis was an amazing host! Her responses were fast and she gave us maps and tips to get around. Her apartment is cosy and the best part was that we got to catch the northern lights on all nights just outside the apartment. I am so glad we stayed at Thordis' as opposed to directly in the city. You will have total privacy and peace and quiet after a day of adventuring. The city is only a 15 minute drive away, and there are scenic paths directly behind the apartment if you don't feel like going too far.
Thordis is a wonderful host, and she provided suggestions for local events that made our stay even more memorable! Ylfa is a brilliantly host and shares really useful information about Iceland. The house is beautiful and feels really authentic with plenty of space.
It is brilliantly located just out of the city with only a small bus ride into the city. Beautiful room in a beautiful home. Ylfa is a fantastic host, very welcoming, full of local knowledge and very prompt with all her replies. Great location, two minutes from a big shopping center and an easy walk into town or the bus station.
Amazing place to stay and fantastic host! She is gonna be always there for you!!: Dont think it twice and book it! After having stayed at Ylfa for 4 nights, it was difficult not to give her 5 stars for everything. She was not only an amazing host, she was incredibly helpful and Insightful in our short stay.
She always went out of her way to ensure that me and my girlfriend were comfortable and greeted us with a very friendly manor on each encounter. Her residence is beautiful. You can tell she is very house proud as she owns a lovely home which is well looked after.
I could not recommend this airbnb anymore if it were possible. I had an amazing time in Iceland and I believe that Ylfa and her amazing hosting skills had a great impact on this. Thanks again Ylfa - 5 stars from me and Franki: Lovely little flat in the perfect location with breathtaking views from the kitchen over the bay; It is old but clean and very warm.
Samantha was incredibly helpful both before and during the trip, and responded to all my messages immediately. This is a wonderful place to stay and Samantha is a great host with lots of local knowledge to offer. The room is as described and very central, and the view from the kitchen is simply stunning!
Highly recommend and would definitely stay again. Central location, cozy, but quite small. Samantha did not respond to messages with questions and concerns that we had.
The flat is located on the top floor so it's best not to carry much luggage on the narrow stairs. Check-in is slightly confusing with an open lockbox next to the door of the flat and the key being located elsewhere. The cleaning fee is hefty and does not reflect the state of the flat. Her roommate left dishes in the sink which we had to wash because there is only a set amount for 4 people and when you are cooking, it is not enough. The heat at one point wasn't working fully and it was chilly during a snowstorm.
There is no hairdryer available and handsoap in the bathroom would have been nice. The non-responsiveness of the host is certainly an issue. Nice small room in the best part of the city. View to the sea from the kitchen is great. This was a great place to stay. Samantha was a fantastic host and very helpful. The location is great and everything in town was very accessible.
Magnus is great - and the cottage is great. The description is accurate and provides pretty much all the info you need. If you need anything else, Magnus is very helpful and responsive. We had a really nice time. The cottage is not far at all from a bus stop, but we enjoyed walking into town and seeing everything up close. It was handy to have public transportation close by for the couple times we opted to ride back to the house, rather than walk in the rain.
I wish I could rate it 6 stars for cleanliness and somehow get my own house that clean. Overall, just a lovely time in a lovely place with lovely hosts. We had a great time at this cottage.
Magnus and Anna were genuinely friendly, welcoming and truly exceptional hosts! The cottage is very comfortable, much bigger than the pictures let on, the heated kitchen and bathroom floors are a great feature as well. The WiFi is also lightning quick. Parking is easy and the location is great.
Situated on a very nice quiet suburban street, yet only a short five minute drive to the city center, and seconds away from roads leading out of Reykjavik, this is the perfect home base for exploring Iceland!
I highly recommend you pick Magnus' cottage for your stay in Iceland. Magnus and Anna are absolutely lovely people. We really enjoyed our stay. The large bed was so comfortable and the heated kitchen and bathroom floors were a luxury during the cold days we spent here. One morning, they invited us in for some breakfast and we enjoyed talking to them and getting to know them better. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend this place to anyone that wants to stay here.
We loved our stay! Everything was so cozy and comfortable that we immediately felt at home. We had everything we needed and then some for the 5 nights we were there. It's the perfect location for the drives out to see the sights or for staying in and going to dinner in town or walking in the park right by the house. Magnus' cottage was the perfect spot for our trip to Iceland with our two small children.
It was in a quiet area close to downtown. As advertised, it was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Hopefully Iceland wins Euro so I can replace the mug with a championship one! Magnus and Anna were terrific hosts. We still have a lots to explore in Iceland and we'd love to stay here again. I stayed at Magnus' place for a week with three other friends ,and we had an excellent time!
The cottage was beautiful We spent most of our time on the road traveling around the country, but Magnus and Anna were very friendly and accessible when we needed anything. The location was great -- a quiet neighborhood, just five or so minutes from center city by car.
Thanks Magnus and Anna for hosting us and helping make our trip a great success: We stayed for a few nights en route to the US and would definitely stay again. The property has a spacious lounge area, kitchen with enough facilities to eat simple meals at home, and a sweet mezzanine bedroom. The property is located in a quiet residential area, just out of town.
Excellent location and lovely homely place to come home to after a long day of activities. Very helpful and responsive with all queries. Nice apartment, nice and clean and served us well as a base to explore - communication with host ahead and during our visit.
Only negative point was the kitchen could have been better equipped and oven tripped fuse when used. Hafdis place is very clean, modern, updated throughout. Probably the nicest kitchen we had seen in our 3 stops in Iceland.
Walking distance to everything, and a cozy and comfortable apartment. She was a great host, and easy to communicate with. When staying here, they have a laundry room and a washer, but not dryer hang your clothes. I thought the laundry room was communal and a neighbor threw my clothes in the drain for using her dryer.
Hafdis took care of us though and was a wonderful host. Easy walking distance to the City Centre shops and restaurants, there is also a supermarket within 2 minutes walk. The apartment is very modern and clean with a fully kitted out kitchen, dishwasher and washing machine. The living room is extremely comfortable with a large TV, comfy sofa and dining room table.
Both double bedrooms are of a good size. The WiFi is also very fast and reliable. Nice play to stay, very close to downtown. The door was hard to lock and unlock but the host was very polite when asking for help. This is a great small apartment in nice area. Lots of fun things to do within walking distance. It is a great size for one or two guests. Room is acceptable except for wet spots on walls with weird color. Bathroom have no real door, only a plain wooden panel that rolls to cover threshold but still have cracks that can be seen through.
Shower is super super tiny. I'm a girl, 5'7 lbs and standing in there was really uncomfortable. If I knew the shower was so tiny or not even a real bathroom door I would have picked somewhere else. The fridge also leaked water in the middle of the night although I think it is just an accident. Good thing none of my items got wet or it would have been a bad first night. This apartment is located near the highway for quick access into town. Neighborhood appears very safe. Ample free street parking.
Thorough handbook to explain everything you need to know. Netflix is a nice touch. It was close to town for hanging out after tours. We had a car so had flexibility of getting around. It isn't in walking distance but is close by car. The apartment is nicely located Hlemmur Square, which means you can easily reach all of central Reykjavik by foot. Unfortunately, the street it is on is busy and you cannot close the bedroom window all the way, which means some street noise—we got woken in the middle of the night by a couple of drunk people walking by, "singing", who thought it was fun to try to open the front door thankfully with no luck.
But I guess that can happen in any bigger city. The apartment itself is clean, nicely designed, and has all the things one needs. During our stay, we had an issue with the shower drain, which was addressed by Anna promptly. We were generally very happy to stay at the place, but have to add that we are under the impression that the apartment is a commercial property run by Heimaleiga, a local property management company.
It is centrally located and very close to main bus stops and the main shopping area. In addition, the space was clean, modern, comfortable, and more spacious than I thought. I will definitely recommend this apartment to others! An excellent place to stay while in Iceland and to use as a base to explore. Anna is great at responding to question and the appartment is as good as it looks in the pictures.
It made my first trip to Iceland much less stressful! Great place with comprehensive amenities and supplies. Well decorated as per the photo. Location a bit off from the main shopping area but grocery and food available nearby. Good location, great interior aesthetics. Door sticks a bit in the winter. Lovely studio apartment in great location as described. Perfect base for two people to explore the city.
The apartment is in a great location that's walkable to bars, food, and groceries. We also greatly appreciated the kitchen being stocked with basic utensils and spices. Lovely, comfy, cosy apartment!
Suitable for a couple and has everything you need for a long period of time. Close walk to the fly bus station about 10 mins which takes you to and from the airport, and which also takes you on excursions.
We would stay again! Thanks for leasing your flat. Other than a poor Internet experience, which I feel was magnified by the abundance of snow and the need to keep inside, it was enjoyable. There was no cooking oil so we bought some vegetable spray and left it for the next guest. Maybe a quick run down of a list of essentials for your guests would help in the future.
Any items being refilled or re-stocked would not be overlooked. Also I would change you description on Air bnb and let your guests know that the Internet is open to public. The 'Private' description is a necessity for many who desire a private connection. The Internet was hard to deal with throughout our stay. It was a really cosy studio apartment, in a great location only a short walk from the centre of Reykjavik.
Would definitely recommend to others and would love to return. The apartment was nice and warm. This was a great and cozy studio! We would definitely stay here again. It has great proximity to the downtown bars and restaurants. Jona was very accommodating and keeps the place very comfortable! Bit bigger than photos would suggest. Didn't meet host, but check in was straightforward. It is very clean and stylish. It is a very good size apartment. The location is great, very close to the city center, which is reachable within 10 minutes on foot.
We would highly recommend this place! Perfect apartment in perfect location! Couldn't fault this place one bit had everything we needed, easy check in and host was always contactable and helpful! Would stay here again! Very nice, clean and tidy apartment, exactly same with the description!
The host is nice and promptly reply all messages. Fantastic place to stay for a couple nights. Apartment seems bigger than what the photos show, and easy lockbox check in. Full size fridge is a plus for those staying longer. Great location, really nice, cosy apartment. We stayed for four nights and it was perfect. Good for a night or two. The space is small but enough for our last night in Iceland. We enjoyed being able to walk down to the night life of Reykjavik. The studio was ground level and you can hear everyone passing by that was difficult for us to sleep through but other than that our stay was great place was very clean.
Very clean place especially the bedding, so warm and comfortable. Some noise at night from passersby but doesn't quite bother us. Good size for couple. This minimalist studio seems perfect for the single traveller, like me, with unusual arrival and departure times. Although the front door is shared, the studio has its own lock and door. Definitely take advantage of the prime location to eat and shop.
The BSI station is really a 15 minute walk, which matters if you are carrying lots of luggage. If you are a light sleeper, consider how much the noise of people walking by will affect you.
The windows are right at street level. It was ideal for me! Great place to stay. The apartment was very clean and the kitchen was well outfitted. The location was also great. The apartment is on a quiet block and is within walking distance of many great bars and restaurants.
Great stay for a layover or single person trip. Small kitchen and private bath. The place was clean and very close to everything. We didn't rent a car and walked everywhere. This place was perfect.
Loved staying in this cottage! It was really comfortable, perfect for two or three people, and close to the city center. The host responded to our messages and questions very quickly and the house was well stocked with kitchen supplies. Also very close to a bus drop off point and the grocery store. We arrived to fresh fruit and cookies which we ate almost straight away , and were so impressed with the lovely place.
It was loads of space for two people, has a supermarket very close the kitchen has everything you need to eat in , is very close to a designated pick up point Foss Hotel Reykjavik , and only a short stroll to the centre along the sea.
Overall we loved it and would definitely stay there again. We loved staying at Heimir's place. Katla's cottage is in a lovely location, easy walking distance to many wonderful things to do in Reykjavik.
The gift of chocolate and fresh fruit was great. We really enjoyed cooking Icelandic lamb, and eating in. The beds were very comfortable. It was very nice to have a washing machine, as Laundromats are not an easy thing to come by in Iceland. Heimir was quick to reply. I would love to come stay again.
We would like to thank Heimir for the opportunity to stay in such a wonderful cottage and cannot recommend this enough. A beautiful and comfortable place close to everything you need for a short break in Iceland. Well maintained and fully equipped kitchen. Supermarket is just round the corner. We really enjoyed our cottage stay! It was so cute and clean inside.
Heimir left a treat and fruit for us on the table, and some drinks in the fridge. Vinyl music shops are also in vogue, with Bad Taste Records at No 35 featuring a museum dedicated to local band The Sugarcubes. For substantial purchases you can reclaim the VAT.
Iceland has harnessed geothermal energy to provide its citizens with limitless hot water. This geological bounty is best enjoyed at Laugardalslaug 7 , the complex of pools on the edge of Laugardalur Park.
Travel essentials Why go now This is the winter to go north. Getting there British Airways ; ba. Check in Iceland's largest hotel is the brand- new room Fosshotel 4 , east of the city centre at Porunnartun 1 00 ; fosshotel.

Hverfisgata 12, Reykjavik , Iceland Omni Price: Cosy spot, amazing staff, great music. My pizza could have done with more cashew cheese. They also serve pizzas with unusual toppings and one my first visit since going vegan I was pleased to see they had a pizza I could eat. A swede in Iceland! A fun stop and I found the pizza was perfectly filling. Tysgata 8, Reykjavik , Iceland Omni Price: Cute little place with friendly service and lovely baked goods.
They had other vegan-friendly baked goods for sale and often have vegan soups, bread and dairy-free milk for coffee and tea.
C is for Cookie is a cosy place to escape the cold. This year we stocked up on goodies at a big Netto out by the Saga Museum.
I was thrilled to find: Oatly chocolate milk, loads of vegan-friendly chocolate bars, bread rolls, a Philadelphia-style Oatly soft cheese for sale. I also took cashew nuts and other snacks from home so had plenty to eat. Netto sold loads of different cheeses, fresh veggies, pasta, bread and faux-meats too so for those self-catering there would be loads of choice.
There was also a Bonus and other big supermarkets there too. This time we checked with them in advance if they could cater for vegans and re-confirmed that I was vegan a few days before we set off for Iceland.
However, when I arrived… nope. There was no vegan meal. I talked to the chef who was lovely and very apologetic than no one had told him to expect me. Rather than heading off to try and find a restaurant with a table — by this point it was pretty late — I ate the salad and veggies that were available. Microbar and Skuli are both great for craft beer aficionados.
Friendly, clean, and although we found it a bit noisy in the past, I would stay here again. This time around we fancied a change of scenery so opted to stay at the Skuggi Hotel on Hverfisgata. The landscape has an otherworldly-feel: On this trip we saw it by moonlight and it was unforgettable. Especially during the winter when doing a self-guided tour and driving in extreme weather conditions might be a bit hair-raising.
On our last trip to Iceland we took in the striking Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, the Solheimajokull glacier and the black sand beach of Reynisfjara with its magnificent basalt column cliffs and stunning sea stacks. We also dropped by the Skogar Folk Museum: They also had a cabinet of old mobile phones which included the Nokia that my Mum still uses!
