I guess the "office politics" part of it is what I'm questioning more than anything. They are there for your problems because with 12 hours ahead of you, what else are you going to talk about? Most nurses who go out with docs at first keep a lid on it because they know their peers will gossip. It was nice having a conversation about work or school, but he thought that he KNEW everything and tried to diagnose everyone. I think it would be refreshing.

I am personally all for it. I think it creates a special bond. You can vent, and you don't have to explain yourself. It worked for me. Just my opinion though. Aug 5, '10 by wezzie, RN. In the end though, it made having a "day off" almost impossible. If one of us was off, and the other worked But, when it's almost every day you have off, you get kinda tired of it. It dampens your days off, makes enjoying yourself and removing yourself from the workplace difficult. So, eventually, with both of us feeling this way that our days off were not as fun , we stopped talking about work.

So, the end result was we didn't feel like we could vent to each other about stuff that happened that night. BTW, my boyfriend of 4 yrs is in medical school and I'll be graduating nursing school in about 1 yr. Since my boyfriend works such long hours, most of which are overnight, caffeine has become the solution for keeping him going and awake.
