Next Post Next Online Dating: What I do have is some not a ton of leftover skin from my weight loss. If your pics don't depict reality, don't post them - or prepare to disappoint people.

Find the good stuff

Congrats on all that hard work getting the extra pounds off. Review your profile, photos and text together and ask yourself: I think I'll just stick with a short 5' What I consider fat is if you're a size 16 and above and even then, if it's a tall woman, she might be able to carry it off. Another man I dated was thin as a rail, had played a lot of softball as an adult but was so crippled up he could barely walk, yet he went on and on about all the championships his team s had won. Such a waste of time.

We should start our own site. Yes, I am wondering too. And then I thought, maybe I should put curvy? Average sounds like Dullsville to me. Curvy sounds prettier, sounds feminine.

So guys, what should I put? So guys or women who know the answer , what do you think I should I put to show myself in the best light, but not lie? Guys, just because you have a gym membership does not make you athletic.

I go to a gym times a week. In fact, the really hot bodies are in precious short supply, truth be told. I went out with an athletic and toned once. I could loose 1 inch on my gut, but everything else is right on. This lady could crush my skull with her legs and had ZERO fat.

Could probably bench press me too. I work with lots of guys around my age, and the reality is that guys who work in offices are usually quite paunchy by their mids. The part that I think is silly is that people like using the peer group for their own category, but not for others.

Most of my peers there are athletic guys who think 28 is old, and the metabolism to drink a six pack yet still have a six pack. If I claim to be athletic and toned, women expect me to look like these dudes. Welcome to the f-ed up world of online dating. Weight, height and a little qualifier is all you need to know to deduce, or a picture of course. Thanks for sharing this post and i have really enjoyed reading your posts about online dating….

I have been online dating for about 3 years now, and my experience has taught me that you cant ever really rely upon what they say their body type is and should instead look at the pictures carefully.

I am a guy and I am honestly about 30 pounds overweight. About average usually means overweight more in the lbs range. As a result they use Slender and Athletic to describe themselves when they are quite heavyset. As women get older the Slender and Athletic descriptions get more accurate. Guys — The biggest mistake I see on your profiles is listing a body type preference for your date at all.

Let your pics convey your size not a drop down box! Men DO know what they like by seeing it. Why not just post an honest height and weight? I would if I were out there. Men need to see what they like, not select it from a drop down menu. Personally, I think men need to take the time to be honest about what they prefer and exclude: My displeasure is to see so many men not list a preference at all. As someone who would categorize myself as full figured or big and beautiful.

Men are just as guilty as women in describing themselves…. If you list certain specifics, you look bad. If it were me, I would post a bunch of shots that make me look exactly as I am.

Such a waste of time. Sadly, you will still get messages from people who apparently have time to waste and are thrilled to waste yours too. Those exact groups, as if I was somehow extremely fascinating to them for wanting nothing to do with them. I think the solution is pretty simple. Head to foot shots. And your exact height and weight. So nobody — male or female — should skirt the truth about your body type, hoping that your personality will overcome potential objections to what you look like.

Big and beautiful implies a taller and over weight build not a hugely gross BMI, but close to Amazon. Queen , with evident curves, with a sparky personality that might keep the athletically toned dudes out on the track all day; might be a good match. While I know I am not ripped nor do I look like a supermodel I am definitely athletic and wear a size 4. I would not use slender as I am not skin and bones but I also would not use average as I am smaller and in better shape than average.

I TOTALLY agree with your statement about only having yourself to blame if you lie through your pics then get hurt if your date walks out. I did that once, and everyone thought I was so mean. Side note to my previously mentioned story.

While we were talking on the phone, she mentioned that the previous couple guy she went out with just started pounding drinks and ended up getting wasted. You guys are total asshats. This is what adults in polite society do. You should try it sometime. Shame on me if I find something like honesty to be a desirable trait in the women I date.

And, while I am certainly not Bradley Cooper, I am honest in portraying who I am… in both my written description of myself and in the photos I post. I think it is my perogative to decide whether I want to be with someone or not, based on their ability to be truthful. I agree that the real curvy is sexy. But the definition of curvy on match.

I think what has really happened here is you have discovered a big glitch in our education system concerning the teaching of the English language or maybe semantics. Some of us get so educated that we cannot understand why a baby is crying. Our language is being redefined every day by news media, music? The words like love, pot, gay, ignorant, stupid, marriage, sex thanks to Willie , drinking, have been redefined and some by the laws of this land by our superb courts pun intended.

Good golly, all the pissing and moaning. If you are looking for perfection then you know why you are single — cause perfect no one is, including you. Every man I have dated has lied about one or more of those things.

I am not dating you 35 years ago, I am dating your now version. Another man I dated was thin as a rail, had played a lot of softball as an adult but was so crippled up he could barely walk, yet he went on and on about all the championships his team s had won.

The only championship I would see him win is a wheel chair race. Maybe a guideline for the ladies as to what is acceptable is this: If so, you are fat. If a review goes ahead, it may result in a tribunal appeal. These people are mostly obese. These values have already been decided for you, the BMI chart will tell you if your slender average or obese.

If someone intentionally lies about their physic there is something worse than their appearance…….. I met a guy on match. He was very cute he only had head shots and had a lot going for him, according to his profile. I was really trying not to be totally superficial, because I think with a great personal trainer and a little bit of drive, anyone can whip it into shape.

I agreed to meet him and it was bad. He was just plain fat in person. He was obviously trying to hid it because his clothes were so tight. He was sweaty and miserable even sitting. I felt so sorry for him. The poor guy was wearing cowboy boots and even they were stretched to the max. He looks like someone who used to be fit, but has let himself go with age. I also have a male client, who is on match. I have not seen him naked, but he wears skinny jeans.

His pics are older than dirt. Why would you start your whole experience out with so many lies? Does he think that he can charm his way out of it when he meets someone? My doctor is on match. He works out at my gym with a trainer, because I see him quite often.

Bless his heart, he did not get the best set of genes. It really makes me think that he believes because he is a doctor, that his status trumps his weight. Basically, a runner or someone who can enjoy walking and talking at the same time. They were just whiney men. After 4 years of dating, using on-line dating sites I have been very succcesful — had 3 marraige proposals, dated somewhere in the region of 6 different men a year , I have decided to go about dating the old fashioned way, meeting and dating people who I have met in person because the online hype, super charged expectations, trolling leads to so many unhappy people and that shows when you date.

Thank goodness I am no longer on online dating sites with so many unhappy, miserable people. LOL, what ya doing with your time that it is so valuable? An evening dress that emphasizes the smallest portion around the waistline and movement out a gradual floor size A form. An empire night gown with a skirt just begins beneath the bust and flares right into a gradual sweep length dress.

Even though I am not one and am a man. Decided to finally get my life together the right way. Fast forward to this morning, the scale read Got in shape by eating right and lifting lots of heavy things over and over again. Despite losing lbs and counting , going from a 44 to 34 waist and building solid amounts of muscle last time in the dressing room at Target, I flexed and could clearly see each back muscle well-defined , I am still torn as to how to define myself due to the remnants of my gut still there as a skin-apron around my abs.

I go through profile and others on ther with waist larger than mine say 36 to 40 sat they are average. With the choices i have how should i cescrige myseld. Do you mind if I quote a couple of your posts as long as I provide credit and sources back to your weblog? My website is in the exact same area of interest as yours and my users would truly benefit from a lot of the information you present here. Please let me know if this okay with you. In Virginia these are the real meanings: There are, of course, exceptions but there really is an obvious trend to this effect.

The curvy ones who actually show their full bodies, and who are not overweight, are high on my list. Be as honest as you can in your photos good face shot, full body shot, etc.. Use pictures, not a body-type description. I have a pretty small belly, some love handles, and a little extra in my shoulders and back, all of which is only slightly noticeable while clothed. Women reject men because of their physical appearance too.

Whether you like or can overlook a big gut or a big butt is totally personal and not all men or all women are the same for this. If you start thinking this way, you will rob yourself of dates. Someone rejecting you is about them, not you. Same with my female friends.

It just depends on the two people. Sure, it feels like crap when it happens. Just upload a full body photo and a straight on angle, and hope for the best I guess. Oh, and this is me , for reference. Not thin, but not fat, and clearly showing people upfront what they're getting. I get annoyed with it as well. I have no idea yet a lot of people admire my 'curves' and some people even say I'm quite curvy. I know that I'm not the 'traditional' curvy-- being 28E, 25 waist and 36 hip. But it's still considered 'hourglass'.

I think that the whole body type thing is incredibly subjective, and, especially for women, it just leads to more harassment than anything. As a very tall, round-in-the-middle-but-muscular-every-where-else man, I have no idea what I am supposed to put. I just picked "Full figured" because it seemed like a description very rarely attributed to men.

You have a really noticeable hour glass figure, definitely curvy not fat. They should really replace "overweight" with a euphemism so people won't feel bad about using it. Thank you so much! Yes, I've learned how to really dress for my figure I don't think guys realize how making comments and judgements about women's bodies fucks with our heads. If a guy doesn't find my body type attractive, that's totally fine! But when he starts calling me out on my self-perception as some random stranger on okc, it's not alright.

Hm, maybe us ladies should all be required to just strip naked and post front-side-back photos, and notarized measurements and weigh-ins. Because clearly, a woman could be totally amazing, but if she has a little tummy pooch there's no point in even talking to her. You can claim whatever you want. I'm just letting you know what most men will see you as since everyone that posts here is so sensitive to downvotes.

Judging by you arm girth and meaty hands I doubt you have a flat stomach, but I could be wrong. List your body type whatever you want, men won't say anything due to fear of fat shaming and being villainized.

But whatever, I'm done arguing, I have nothing to prove to you. You seem very intent on making a stranger feel like shit, but that's not going to happen. Think I'm fat if you like. Telling you that you're not curvy and fit in the little extra category makes you feel like shit? Yes you are fat from what I saw.

Nothing wrong with that, most men in America are fat as well and that's what they like. I call myself curvy because I have motherfucking curves. I don't really care what words imply, I can let people judge my appearance by the photos. Pick whichever word you like best, and make sure your photos of reasonably good quality, and if the people you meet are disappointed, tell them to go fuck themselves. I hated this too, haha.

I think I'm a little extra, bordering on average. I stopped using mine too, but usually I put a little extra, with pictures of my full-body and let people decide for themselves.

I never really look too much at body type, I usually check Details for whether or not they drink or smoke or what religion they are. I rely almost entirely on pictures. I'd almost suggest just leaving it blank and letting your visitors decide based on pictures. To be fair, as a guy, I don't even get to use the full range of choices. I have basically have average and overweight to choose from.

There's really nothing to worry about. If someone is looking at your profile and their decision boils down to "body type," would that be a person you'd want to have a potential relationship with? I personally don't think there's much difference between average, curvy, and a little extra. Pick whatever one YOU feel personally suits you and rock that shit. Curvy is synonymous with fat since no one tends to remain true to what 'curvy' really means.

I'm 5'2 and close to lbs, most of which I carry in my, uh, "lady areas. Not only do you come across as negative, but you also give the impression that you are the very thing you claim not to want.

If you say "drama queens need not apply" I will assume that you have tons of relationship drama, which means you don't have the self-awareness to see how much of it you create! The better you are at attracting the right people, the more the wrong ones won't be attracted to you. Besides - you can't avoid being contacted online by some people you don't want to date - that's par for the course.

Your focus instead should be on being contacted by those you do want to date! It is more effective to focus on attracting the right people than repelling the wrong ones. Another common pitfall is sarcasm in the profile. You might be sarcastic, and that might be what people who know you love about you.

But sarcasm doesn't translate well in an online profile, especially if you are a woman! Women might be more forgiving, but very few men will be instantly drawn to a woman who leads with sarcasm. Your profile tells a story.

It shouldn't be a novel consider this a bonus tip! It might tell the story of an athletic, ambitious world traveler, or a geeky, sincere introvert. Or it could tell the story of a bitter, demanding perfectionist.

Review your profile, photos and text together and ask yourself:. Your story is dictating who is attracted to you, so make sure you are grabbing the attention of the right people.

If you aren't able to be objective about your profile, ask someone you trust to read it for you. Is it highlighting your best qualities? What are you saying between the lines? Is it what your ideal partner wants to hear? Are you expressing what is both unique to you and what is attractive to who you want to date? If you can do that, you are winning! And you just might meet the perfect person for you online. Since we're talking about writing a profile, I have to mention spelling and grammar.

There is a lot of bad spelling and grammar out there. And there are a lot of online profiles that list spelling mistakes and bad grammar as a pet peeve.

And some of those same people have spelling mistakes and bad grammar in their profiles! Plenty of people will be forgiving of typos, but don't risk turning off someone just because you didn't use spellcheck.

The thoughtfulness and care you put into your profile will show and be appreciated by others. So make the effort to clean up your mistakes! Francesca is a professional dating coach and matchmaker. Get more free dating advice, including a guide to your perfect online photos at www.
