Makes me wonder when y'all start using more formal labels than "some guy or girl I'm dating". After we've had a conversation about it. With current guy it was about 4 or 5 dates in. I asked him to a party and he was like "what will you introduce me as?
You're my boyfriend too. With last boyfriend it was about 2 months-ish. We were drunkenly walking home from a bar and he said "so The drunken story is great. That's a pretty hilarious sequence of events. Too bad it wasn't meant to be: My boyfriend and I didn't have The Talk until we'd been seeing each other for about eight months.
This was nice to see. Everyone is talking about 5 or so dates and then, bam, discussion. Meanwhile I've been seeing a guy for about 5 months and we still haven't had that discussion.
I'm sure we will, but no rush for now. My partner told me about 3 months into us dating that he referred to me as his girlfriend to his boss and asked if that was okay. We'd been seeing each other times a week for that whole time. Yeah, it seems like a lot of my friends are ready to make Big Decisions early into seeing someone and that's not so much my style. By that point in our relationship my husband and I were married.
Ironically, he was the one concerned with labels, I just loved being with him. We've been together almost two years now and moved in together five months before we exchanged I love yous- which was very recent development. We're not even marching to our own relationship drum at this point, we're meandering to an accordion. Genuinely curious, you didn't find that "clingy? By the way, when you say 11 days in, do you mean 11 days after agreeing to go out with him or, of course, vice versa?
If you were friends for two years and then started a relationship, you might be more apt to make it Facebook 'official' sooner. We agreed to go out like days before we met up from OK cupid. In that 11 days from our first date, we had spent maybe one night away from each other, and that's because I already had another date scheduled from OKC a total flop! On our second date, I said that "This is going to sound crazy, but I just don't want to waste either of our time, so I want to be married and have babies, SOON.
I'm not going to pressure anyone into either of these things, but if you also want the same things on a similar timeline, then we can continue dating. If not, I have to move on. We were equally enthusiastic about each other, so no, I didn't find it clingy. Clingy is when you're not as enthusiastic about someone as they are about you!
We had spent plenty of time together at that point - he was laying on my bed while I was sitting at my desk while he changed his status, and I looked over at him with a raised eyebrow, and rolled with it. But we mostly he has agreed that it's "too soon" so sometimes I'll refer to him as my not boyfriend. With my current SO I waited until he referred to me as his girlfriend, but I think it would have been better if we'd just discussed it haha.
When we talk about officially dating. I fooled around with my boyfriend for about three months before we talked about what we were. We decided to go for it, and from then on, that's what I called him. When we have that discussion, until then he's the guy I'm dating. My SO and I had that discussion on our second official date. I have considered my current SO and my exes boyfriends after we kissed. Never had "The Talk"; it was simply assumed. That's pretty common where I am from. I wouldn't say I was seeing them or dating them.
He just has said that it's "too soon". I know he got really burned by an ex many years ago I know zero details so maybe he is just really cautious. He's clearly very into me it's mutual so it's merely a matter of labeling, at this point.
We are 23 and 26 and all our friends are getting married so maybe he just wants to chillax. Thanks for the answer. I will be honest I don't get how it's more chillax or cautious to not call himself your boyfriend but what's important is that what you have makes you happy, not how you label it.
And it sounds like this not-a-relationship is starting great. My boyfriend and I originally said no labels. We had agreed to be exclusive, but labels bothered him because of some reasons I understood. About a month into it, he subtly slipped into conversation that he was my boyfriend.
It took me a good 15 minutes to catch on, but when I did, I was shocked. He said he was happy with it, and I was too. I am in no hurry to change that just because that moment felt pretty awesome - I think if we get to the point that we're planning to get married, that's probably how it'll happen. I'm cool with that. We were young enough that it was the 'will you go out with me? Such a cringey question though!
