I am dating a black guy for the first time and i have a couple of questions? I can say so far is like dating any other guy but the only thing I can tell is that I was impressed. He treated me like a lady , we were able to have a great conversation, I felt at ease, although it was a first date he swept me off my feet. I do really like him and I'm atracted to him, we are already I do really like him and I'm atracted to him, we are already planning our second date.
I would like to know if culturally I should do things differently or what to expect. It kind of makes me unconfortable generalize based on the color of skin, we are all humans right? But is there any difference? Which qualities would you expect to find in a woman to make it a commited relationship?
Any words of advice? Are you sure you want to delete this answer? Nicky, I too am dating a black guy for the first time. Although I knew him for some time before we actually dated, I was a bit nervous about dating him. I too was impressed! He treats me better than any guy ever did, and I have never been happier! Just treat him like a man, and with the same respect he shows you.
It also helps if the people around you are supportive because, let's face it, some people are bound to have a problem with it. I don't know if I answered your question.
I hope everything works out for you. I know I wouldn't change a thing in my life! Sleep with a white guy, then sleep with a black guy. Better yet, invite them both over and do a side-by-side comparison. Take pictures, make a graph, email it to me and we'll meet for scones and tea to discuss it. Black people don't eat scones. There seems to be this pervasive idea that if you date a non-Black man as a Black woman, then you must hate Black men.
Even a childhood friend remarked very flippantly, "Oh, Nia only dates white guys," when she knew very well that wasn't true. We also seem to be living in a time when the media is very concerned for us poor Black women.
You see, apparently there are "no good Black me left" so many of us are single and alone. I refuse to participate in that discussion because I don't believe that is true. I've seen too many awesome Black husbands and fathers including my father, step-father, grandfather, uncle, etc. These books and TV shows that continue to perpetuate this lie, are only interested in profiting from our insecurity and we need to call them on their bullshit.
It creates more of a divide when we need to keep fighting for unity. There are certainly some issues involving the personal and professional successes of Black women versus men but to think that I have turned my back on my brothers because of who I am romantically involved with implies that I see them as one and have dismissed them all. I try to treat everyone as an individual and you should do the same.
Yes, I am on my high horse, thank you very much. Here's a sampling of the various types of men I've dated: You want to know which were my favorites? The ones who didn't treat me like shit.
